In this Article I will be discussing the Rehab of Kansas City South located at 8033 Holmes road Kansas City Missouri 64131
I will be discussing the full month of my stay. I was there to receive physical therapy following my spinal stroke that paralyzed me from the waist down.
My first week in the facility was an absolute nightmare. There was residents rolling around blaring insanely loud music day and night. And there were multiple altercations.
I asked one of the residents Nathan to turn his music down because it is way too loud and he was playing it in the middle of the night. He was rolling around in his power chair blasting the music on a loudspeaker with the bass turned all the way up. At one point he played it at 5:45 a.m. when everybody was sleeping in the lights were still off.
Numerous times I asked this individual to quit doing it. And the staff were useless. They staff would not acknowledge the fact that he was disturbing people.
Eventually I got mad and yelled at him for waking me up for the 8th time. This individual proceeded to ram my manual wheelchair with his electric power chair. he shoved me 8 ft and I lost control of the wheelchair and flew into a couch. I flew into and over a couch.
The administrator De'Anthony requested that I do not speak about it ever.
During my first week there I had numerous staff members waking me up barging in the room without knocking first, leaving the door open while I'm changing clothes for everybody to watch.
They have no regard for people's privacy and they don't care about our safety. it is apparent that these people are just here for a paycheck.
During my first week there I went to take a shower in the shower room and there was dried fecal matter on the floor. Indicating that it had been there for a very long time. In fact it was dried so hard that it had to be scraped off the floor. This means that when they were done bathing somebody they did not bother to clean up their mess afterwards.
There was also garbage all over the floor. Dirty laundry laying underneath the shower chair and underneath other areas of the shower. I even noticed that there was a dirty adult diaper that somebody had taken off of a client and just simply left by the toilet on the floor.
During my second week at this facility another individual got mad at the fact that I was having a normal conversation in the hallway at 2:00 in the afternoon as I was rolling down the hallway. His name is Eric. He decided to come out of his room and punch me in the face twice because he was annoyed at the fact that I was having a conversation with somebody else.
Then they put me in a room with a Mr Larry Gleason who also assaulted me. Three police reports were made during these assault instances.
Larry Gleason rammed his power chair into me pinning me between the his wheelchair and the wall and proceeded to hit me multiple times for simply running the air conditioner.
This guy wanted the heat on 90° all day long in the middle of summer.
He wanted that room 90°. Because I simply turned on the air conditioner he got mad rammed me and punched me multiple times.
I have been harassed by multiple staff members for simply speaking out about these issues. I have had my privacy violated 15 times in one week by the staff.
They took my medication then I came in with and they lost my inhaler for asthma which I have not been able to get a replacement as well as a nasal spray that I need to be able to breathe. And I lost them for 2 weeks.
And for two weeks they have not been able to locate my inhaler that I need in order to be able to breathe from my asthma.
When I brought it to their attention they straight up ignored me.
I brought it to multiple people's attention that work there and they straight up ignored me.
After the first assault by Nathan. I told the building administrator De'Anthony that I wanted to transfer to another physical rehab center one that is not so violent.
He ignored me as well.
Three more weeks have gone by and I continue to relay the same message which nobody bothers to write down or forward to the appropriate party.
And finally today I literally had to get in their face and yell at them.. this was necessary because they weren't listening.
And DeAnthony asked me today. " you must not be happy here do you want to leave?". I told him "what part of yes do you not seem to understand. I told you I wanted to leave 3 weeks ago after I got assaulted by a Nathan and after I got punched in the face twice. "
All of a sudden he doesn't seem to remember me telling him this weeks ago.
Within my first week here one of the med-techs almost overdosed me on my extended release Seroquel. I take 800 mg of extended release Seroquel, which is two pills equaling 400 mg each. This individual gave me four pills. Which would have been 1200 mg of Seroquel. Had I not caught the fact that there was two more pills than there should have been. She would have overdosed me without realizing it. And then the next day that same med technician gave me one pill instead of two. Which would have been an underdose.
These people get offended when you point out what they do wrong. If they overdosed me one day and underdosed me the next I wonder how many times they have done this to other people who can't defend themselves. Cuz there are multiple people here that are so physically disabled that they have to be fed by a person in order to survive. So how many other people are they doing this to?
This facility is by far one of the worst places I have ever been.
They continue to prove how careless they are and they continue to prove how they violate people's privacy rights.
Today is currently June 17th. And following another assault and I witnessed.
There was an individual who doesn't speak any English, who barely walks and is one of the nicest people I've ever seen. Who is all so a little bit senile. Walked around outside and because he was standing behind another individual. This individual got up out of his wheelchair and punched this guy in the face as hard as he can. The individual appears to have a broken nose and I saw blood flying off of his face while he was being hit and knocked to the ground. He hit him incredibly hard.
Since I've been here there have been three assaults on me. And two more assaults on other people.
This is a very violent facility.
The staff continue to be careless, they continue to neglect their clients and they continue to show how the living conditions in this place are not up to par.
Through my second week here I noticed that a state inspector came in and two days before the inspector came in they were running around the building touching up all the violations that they could in a rush to get it prepared for this inspector.
Indicating that they were careless enough to do it to begin with but hurry up to make it presentable when they showed up.
This facility needs to be seriously handled.
On top of my stay here I had to pay them $850 out of my own pocket. Later on through the business manager Lori I found out that this building is paid $9,500 by Medicaid per person to be here. On top of that they take every penny these people have in Social security and then leave them with $50.
And according to Lori this place grosses 11 million per year in revenue. And they cannot seem to feed people better or take better care of their facility.
The facility feeds us very little. We often are even hungrier after we eat stand before we went in. They underfeed us. The other day they served fish that was still pink in the middle.
Two people said they got sick from those fish sandwiches.
Most of the people who are diabetic don't even eat at all because the food they serve them hurts their diabetes. There are specific foods that people cannot eat when they're diabetic and the kitchen continues to serve them food that will raise their blood sugar.
Another issue that I found here is that they have two doctors that are on staff at this facility contracted to serve the people here. Those doctors often make choices for people without even talking to them first.
The doctor seen that I was on 800 mg of Seroquel and proceeded to take me down to 100 of regular release when I take extended release for a reason. I was on this med for the last 19 years..
And this doctor simply took me down without even talking to me first and just expected me to blindly comply.
And I told them I said why are you guys giving this to me.
The staff said oh that's what the doctor ordered.
I said no my doctor did not order this. And then they tried to force me to see their doctor when I have my own outpatient doctor.
I come to find out that it is a violation of the law for a facility of this nature to force you to see their doctor.
I'm allowed to see whoever I want. I am my own guardian after all.
When I stood up for myself and told them look they need to keep me on the medication that my doctor prescribed. They simply got mean with me and told me I was being combative and non-compliant. And then they continued to harass me about why I won't do what they want me to do.
So after a week of taking this 100 mg pill I went to my primary psychiatrist at swope healthcare and they put me back on the 800 mg that im supposed to be on.. I went to the pharmacy downstairs. I picked up my medications and then I took my medical ride back to the facility. Came in I gave them my medications and the paperwork for my my current outpatient psychiatrist. And they proceeded to say "oh we can't let you take this medication because it's not from our doctor"
So then I called LegalShield who I pay a subscription to and they sent a letter to these people and all of a sudden they're just working with me on my new doctor. It took me sending a letter from my lawyer to get these people to let me do what I need to do. Get them to back off and stop forcing me to see their provider.
According to Dubail judge law firm in St Louis. It is illegal for facilities like this to force you to see their provider when you have your own.

On June 29th I am getting on a Greyhound bus and going back to Miami Florida.
But before I go I need the people in the city to know what this facility is all about and how badly they treated me as well as other people.
