Watch live: Jeffries, Golden give remarks on protecting federal worker's rights

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) will give remarks Thursday morning alongside union leaders to rally support for federal worker protections.

The press conference comes as mass layoffs spurred by analysis from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continue as part of the President Trump's vow to shrink the federal workforce. It also follows bipartisan legislation introduced earlier this year by Golden and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) that would nullify an executive order from the president that targeted collective bargaining for federal employees. A federal judge just last month ruled against the order.

The Senate on Wednesday also passed a $9 billion rescissions package that solidifies some DOGE cuts to foreign aid programs and public media — and it now heads back to the House. Democrats have pushed back on the move by warning it could threaten spending negotiations ahead of a government shutdown deadline later this year.
