President Trump said the U.S. would impose 100 percent secondary tariffs on countries that trade with Russia if Moscow does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine in the next 50 days.
"We’re very, very unhappy with them, and we’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in about 50 days," Trump said during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Trump had touted a "major" announcement on Russia ahead of the meeting. It comes a day after the president announced the U.S. would sell Patriot missiles to European allies, who could then pass those arms to Ukraine.
Rutte will also meet Monday and Tuesday with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as well as members of Congress.
Both the Senate and House are back in session this week. As the House works on appropriations bills, the Senate is headed toward a Friday deadline to pass a rescissions package from the White House.
